GRAPEVINE – 24thJune to 8th July 2018

Church Family News  Please remember in your prayers:- Margaret & Albert who have been unable to share worship with us for a number of weeks. We think of all members of our church family who are maybe struggling with health problems at the present time, and we think of those who are due to undergo hospital tests/operations for various conditions or waiting for results etc and trust all will go well for them.

We also remember all Church family and friends who can no longer share in fellowship with us because of being housebound or who are now in the loving care of Care Homes in the area, and feel sure that knowing they are in our thoughts and prayers is a comfort to them

David and Christine would like to express their appreciation for all the love, care and support given by the church family during the last few weeks. God’s love was shown by so many people and we are very fortunate to have that experience. Although Arthur’s passing came quite suddenly, we are grateful that he did not suffer and he was sure in the knowledge of a better time to come.

Happy Birthday, Congratulations and Best Wishes to all who have Birthdays and/or Anniversaries over the next two weeks.

Circuit Mission Evening at Greens Lane

Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to the very successful ‘All We Can’ event at which Tim Baker gave a very good synopsis of his time spent in Zimbabwe and all who attended thoroughly enjoyed the very informative evening.   The mix of people from the various churches within our Circuit was very well spread and it was good to share the evening with everybody. The lovely refreshments were greatly enjoyed by all.   Thanks to Win Aston for the necessary organisation of the event.

Race for Life – supporting Cancer Care   Heather and Sandra Wilkinson would like to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored them for ‘Race for Life’. Your sponsorship contributed £135 to our £400 total going to Cancer Research UK. (Well done to you both on your excellent result).

August Coffee Mornings   Not only does the Editor think the year is flying by, but so too does Margaret Schofield, as via Grapevine she reminds everyone that the coffee making team take a break during August, and if we are to still be able to share friendly interaction on a Tuesday morning over a coffee, then we must ask others within the Church family to step up and maybe take on one of the dates. – 7th, 14th, 21st or 28th. Please have a word with Margaret if you can offer help

Summer Strawberry Fair – Saturday 14th July, 1.00 pm

As our Fair looms on the horizon – only three weeks away, we are keeping fingers crossed that we will have good weather for our annual event. Being outside makes such a difference and the atmosphere is lifted, just because the sun is shining. However, at this stage we cannot say we will be ‘in’ our ‘out’, but either way any help will be appreciated in the preparation before and also the tidying up after. There will be people around from about 7pm on the Friday and 9am on the Saturday morning, and it really will be a case of all hands on deck to see that all goes smoothly. We cannot have a good day without people from the community coming along, so please ‘spread the word’ as far and wide as you possibly can, and help us to ensure a good ‘fun’ and fundraising day is had by all.

If you normally ‘man’ a stall, please indicate on the sheet which can be found on the vestibule table how many tables you will require for the items you are displaying/selling etc.

Safeguarding Course – Foundation and Refresher Courses

PLEASE NOTE:- that there has been a bit of a rescheduling of the Course mentioned in the last edition of Grapevine.   The Course to be held on Thursday 19th July (2-4pm) at Norton Methodist Church is a Foundation Course for those who have never before attended a safeguarding course.

The date of the Refresher Course is on Wednesday 4th July at 7.30pm and will be held at Carlton Methodist Church. If you are able to attend please add your name to the list in the vestibule so that those running the course are aware of how many may be in attendance on the day.   It is also known that there will be people who have never taken part in any Safeguarding Course and it would be a great help if they could also to add their name to the list detailed as ‘New to Safeguarding’.   If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to have a word with Jim Bruce who is our Safeguarding Officer.

It cannot be bought or borrowed

It cannot be stolen or sold

But this precious gift

When freely given

Is a pleasure to behold.

For it reassures the frightened.

It soothes those who are sad,

And comforts the dejected

And makes the mournful glad.

It brightens up this weary world

And lightens up our life

Brings sunshine to the shadows

At a time of pain and strife.
