GRAPEVINE – 2nd – 16th September 2018

Church Family News

Please remember in your prayers:- Lynn Hutton as she continues to convalesce following recent surgery for a knee replacement – we hope it won’t be too long before she is able to join us once again for worship,. We think of all members of our church family who are maybe struggling with health problems at the present time, and we think of those who are due to undergo hospital tests/operations/treatments for various conditions or waiting for results etc and trust all will go well for them.

We also remember all Church family and friends who can no longer share in fellowship with us because of being housebound or who are now in the loving care of Care Homes in the area, and feel sure that knowing they are in our thoughts and prayers is a comfort to them

It was with sadness that we received the news of the death of Billy Stafford. Billy was the dearly loved husband for 68 years of Marion, dearest Dad of Mandy and Alison and the late Christopher, and devoted Grandad of Laura, Zia, and Jack. A service of Celebration for Billy’s life was held at Teesside Crematorium yesterday (1st Sept), attended by many family, relatives and friends. The Church Family at Greens Lane offer Marion and all the family, love and sincere condolences at this very sad time, and trust that God’s love will continue to surround and uphold them all in the coming days.

A message from the Mackenzies reads as follows:- Margaret and family wish to thank Greens Lane Church Family and Friends for the many cards, letters of condolence and flowers they received on the death of David. Special thanks to all who helped us during the Funeral Service and provided the welcome cups of tea later. Your prayers and words of comfort have helped to sustain us during this very sad time. God Bless you all.

Happy Birthday, Congratulations and Best Wishes to all who have Birthdays and/or Anniversaries over the next two weeks.

We send rather belated congratulations to Brenda Humble who celebrated her 80th Birthday on 12th August, and we know she had a lovely day. We go on to give a special mention to another three of our church ladies, two who celebrate their 90th birthdays only one day apart!! Firstly Margaret Bullock on the 6th and Hazel Errington on the 7th and then Christine Cockerill also has a ‘special’ birthday on the 9th September. We send all four ladies love, best wishes and God’s Blessings on celebrating their milestone birthdays XXXX

Although Margaret is no longer able to attend worship with us we send best wishes via Grapevine to her at Reuben Manor, and we know that Hazel and Christine will have thoroughly enjoyable and memorable days with their families.

Circuit Re-organisation from September 2018

As we come together to celebrate the start of a new Church Year and following Rev. Christine’s retirement, the Circuit has been slightly re-organised into three ‘Sections’ under the care of the remaining three Ministers. Greens Lane now comes under the pastoral care of our Superintendent Minister, Rev. Peter Catford, together with Yarm Road, St. Paul’s Newtown and Thornaby Churches. We welcome Rev. Peter to Greens Lane Church “family” and pray that he will enjoy this extra “challenge”, (and that isn’t to just get to grips with all the ‘Margarets’ at Greens Lane!). It is hoped that there will be much more connection within our particular Section and the Circuit as a whole in the future. The remaining Sections of the Circuit are as follows:-

Yarm, Eaglescliffe Trinity, and Maltby Churches under the care of Rev. Moira Peters.

Norton, St. Andrews, Carlton and North Billingham Churches under the care of Rev. Suva Catford.

Please pray for our Ministers and preachers as they lead the administration and worship of our Circuit in the coming year.

August Coffee Mornings

Thank you to the ladies who ran the Tuesday Coffee Mornings during August which gave the usual ladies a few weeks off. Christine Cockerill thanks everyone for the help in raising £180 for Release International and Cynthia and Zelda gratefully appreciated the amount generated on their coffee morning of, once again £180, this time for the Crohns & Colitis Association. Money collected from the morning run by Jean and Pat was donated to Church and funds raised on the last Tuesday morning run by Dawn and her helpers Christina Twum and Holly Quince will help to ensure that Holly is able to take part in her school trip to Lesotho later in the year. Super that folk were able to enjoy a morning out and by doing so, also give extra help to boost funds where needed.

Wednesday Afternoons

Ladies Circle and Knit & Natter get back into routine this week. Ladies Circle will meet for 5th September with a ‘Welcome Back’ afternoon, and Knit & Natter get their knitting needles clicking once again by meeting on the 12th. (They did in fact have an afternoon together last Wednesday 29th, when everyone enjoyed catching up with the news of the last few weeks and admiring what had come off the needles during that time.) Both groups extend a warm welcome to any ladies who would like to pop in and see what the groups are all about.

Fund Raising Coffee Morning

Once again Margaret Schofield has organised the usual annual Coffee Morning on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support. This year’s event will be held on Tuesday 25th September 10.15 – 11.30 am. Coffee and Scones £1.50p plus there will be a Tombola. Please make a note of the date and come along and support this extremely valued Charity. Why not bring a friend, (perhaps someone who doesn’t go out very much) along for some time out of the house for coffee and chat?

90 Minute Group

Our Church ‘90 Minute Group’ will meet at 7.00 pm on Tuesday 25th September, thereby getting the monthly sessions underway once again, and will continue on the last Tuesday evening of each month. At the September session it is intended to complete the study of the remaining chapters of the Gospel of John. It will them be decided what the next sessions will try to cover. Please therefore in the meantime, think about any subject, Bible section, person etc you would like to discuss and learn more about, to suggest as a new topic for discussion, either as a one-off session or a series. This group is very informal and friendly and is open to everyone.

Harvest Weekend 6th & 7th October

Advance Notice reference the above:- On Saturday 6th we will be sharing in a Faith Tea which will then be followed by ‘Saturday Night Worship with a Harvest Theme’ – all ages are welcome to stay and share in the Saturday evening ‘Harvest Celebration’. Watch this space for further information.

Postcards

Since we have been asking people to send post cards to church from holiday destinations, we have received them from a wide variety of places at home and abroad and now have 34!! A World map, together with all cards received up to now, is on the board in the vestibule and makes interesting reading. Please take time to have look.

Please remember to keep sending postcards to Church from your holiday destination.

John Mason, a Steward from North Billingham, (same gentleman who did so well on Countdown), is taking part in the Great North Run in aid of Butterwick Hospice, and a Sponsor Form for those who would like to support him in his run can be found near the pigeon holes in the vestibule. We are hoping that Bryan Aston will agree to being ‘Treasurer’ for any donations – so all money to be passed to Bryan please.
