GRAPEVINE – 10th to 24th February 2019.

Church Family News

Please remember in your prayers:- Jean Stoves, who due to an infection, has had another short stay in hospital, (but pleased to advise came home Friday afternoon) – much to John’s pleasure, and Barbara Brookes who is also in North Tees hospital at the moment. We think of all members of our church family who are maybe struggling with health problems at the present time, and we think of those who are due to undergo hospital tests operations, treatments for various conditions or waiting for results etc and trust all will go well for them.

We also remember all Church family and friends who can no longer share in fellowship with us because of being housebound or who are now in the loving care of Care Homes in the area, and feel sure that knowing they are in our thoughts and prayers is a comfort to them.

It is with sadness that we pass on the news of the death of Margaret Paine. Margaret passed away peacefully in North Tees Hospital around tea time on Monday, 4th February, aged 94 years. She had been a stalwart member at Greens Lane since Fairfield and Hartburn Churches amalgamated over 40 years ago. Margaret was the dearly loved and loving wife of the late Lewis, dearest Mum of Christine, respected Mum in law of Ron, and a devoted Grandma and Great Grandma. A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at Greens Lane on Thursday 21st February at 10.45 am followed by a service of committal in St. Hilda’s Chapel at 11.45 am prior to cremation. The family have expressed a wish for friends to share in both services, should they wish, and to join them later for buffet lunch refreshments in the church hall. We give thanks for Margaret’s contribution to church life at Greens Lane and offer our love, blessings and condolences to all the family at this sad and stressful time.

Congratulations to Barbara Smith on becoming a Great Grandma for the first time following the birth of Ted Alexander Smith who arrived safe and sound on 1st February. Ted is the baby son of Katie and Matthew Smith . Barbara, we hope you enjoy your cuddles with baby Ted and trust God’s love and blessings will surround him always.

On Sunday 17th February, during morning worship, we will welcome into the Church family by Holy Baptism, Ava Jean Robson, daughter of Leeann and Tim. Ava is the great granddaughter of the late Jean and Frank Moffatt and we offer all the family, God parents and friends who will share in the service and support the family, a very warm welcome. We wish you God’s Blessings, Ava, for a long, healthy and happy life. Great Grand parents Jean and Frank would be thrilled at the decision of Leann and Tim to bring Ava to Greens Lane on this very special day of celebration.

On Saturday 23rd February at 11.30am we will welcome into the church family by Holy Baptism, Amelia Florence Wilson, daughter of Brianna and Sam and we extend a very warm welcome to all family and friends who will share in this very special celebration. The Greens Lane church family wish Amelia a long, healthy and happy life and trust that God will bless her always in the years to come. XX

Happy Birthday, Congratulations and Best Wishes to all who have Birthdays and/or Anniversaries over the next two weeks. We give a special mention to Jim Bruce who celebrates his 85th Birthday on 12th February – Happy Birthday in advance Jim, hope you have a happy day XX. We also give an early mention for Liz and Will Beattie as they prepare to celebrate (with a holiday), their Ruby Wedding on Sunday 24th. The Church Family offer congratulations, love and best wishes on sharing 40 years as ‘Mr and Mrs’ May God’s Blessings be with you both always, and we hope you have a super time. XX

Church Stewards

This is the time of year when we begin to think about our Stewardship team, which presently numbers four:- Christine Smart, Ron Hill, Graham Stoves and Caroline Noble. In May, one of these Stewards will be stepping down, having served for more than the required term and it is hoped that a replacement, or even ‘replacements’, can be found. It would be very difficult to operate with a Stewardship of only three. If anyone feels called to Stewardship, please speak to one of the present Stewards to learn more of the duties. Please do not put forward the name of another church member, unless discussing this with them first. Our Minister and the Stewards ask for your prayerful consideration of this matter.

Time to think of this year’s holidays?

Thanks to everybody who sent postcards from their holiday destinations last year. As you can see from the display in the vestibule, except for South America they are quite widespread. The display will soon be dismantled and taken down, so if you need to remind yourself of the places people visited……………….please be quick!!!!!!!

Pancakes – yummy

Once again pancakes instead of biscuits will be on offer at Tuesday Coffee on 5th March. Please mark the date in your diary and pop along and enjoy one (or even two) pancakes (usually 50p each) prepared by our Stewards – thank you in advance to them for cooking and serving them.

Did someone mention Spring Cleaning?

Did you know, were you aware that we have an upstairs store room? We will shortly be preparing to once again clear and clean this area. If you have added any item to the room and want it kept, please add a note to that effect or it might be disposed of.

Early Planning and Preparation

We will soon be holding a meeting about fund raising, in particular discussing the Summer Fair. The meeting (date of which will be confirmed shortly) will be an ‘open’ meeting, so please, in the mean time, put your thinking caps on and hopefully come with plenty of ideas.
