GRAPEVINE – 24th February to 10th March 2019.
Dates for your Diary
Tuesday 7.30pm 5th March Circuit Council Meeting at St. Andrews
Sunday Noon 10th March Annual Lent Lunch to be served in hall after worship all welcome
Tuesday 30th April General Church Meeting – open to all
This is the time of year when we begin to think about our Stewardship team, which presently numbers four:- Christine Smart, Ron Hill, Graham Stoves and Caroline Noble. In May, one of these Stewards will be stepping down, having served for more than the required term and it is hoped that a replacement, or even ‘replacements’, can be found. It would be very difficult to operate with a Stewardship of only three. If anyone feels called to Stewardship, please speak to one of the present Stewards to learn more of the duties. Please do not put forward the name of another church member, unless discussing this with them first. Our Minister and the Stewards ask for your prayerful consideration of this matter.
Pancakes – yummy
Once again pancakes instead (or even as well as) biscuits will be served at Coffee on Shrove Tuesday (5th March). As this date falls in the middle of ‘Fairtrade Fortnight’ there will also be a stall of Fair trade goods for sale and all proceeds from the sale of pancakes (usually 50p each), will be donated to Fairtrade. Please mark the date in your diary and pop along and enjoy one (or even two) pancakes prepared by our Stewards – thank you in advance to them for cooking and serving them.
Gosh the year really has crept around extremely quickly when Margaret and John Schofield are asking for any articles for inclusion in the Easter edition to be with them by Sunday 24th March. Do YOU perhaps have something that would make entertaining reading in our church magazine?
Lent Lunch in aid of Christian Aid – from Harry Whitehouse our C.A Secretary
On Sunday, 10th March (1st in Lent) we will be having our Annual Lent Lunch. For those who haven’t shared in this before, this is what happens :- After Morning Worship and coffee, those people staying for lunch move to the Church hall where everyone will be served a basic meal of a choice of soups accompanied by bread rolls, this is then followed by a selection of cheeses and biscuits together with tea or coffee.
The aim of the event is that we forgo our normal Sunday lunch
and make a donation ‘in lieu’ towards Christine Aid………….Looking forward to your company!
You don’t need to book – just come along
NEW :- Next Steps: Exploring Baptism and Beyond – for all churches within our Circuit
Starting Wednesday 6th March at 4.00 pm (then every week throughout Lent) We are asked that as a church do we perhaps have anyone who would like to explore Baptism or Confirmation for themselves? Through the Baptism project, there is a NEW course for older children and young people (and adults) which hopes to explore:-
How do I own my own faith?
What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ?
What could Baptism and confirmation mean for me?
Hosted by Rev. Peter Catford, those attending will get the chance to explore these questions in an informal relaxed atmosphere. Suitable for 10 year olds+. The group will meet in the upper room at Greens Lane and refreshments will be provided. Contact Rev Peter for further information.
Christine Cockerill who is presently our Pastoral Roll Secretary, wishes to take a short break from the role and wonders if there is anyone within the Church Family who would be willing to take it on. Being able to use a computer is necessary as all names on our Pastoral Register must be kept up to date etc. If you are interested in what the role entails, please have a word with Christine – she will be very pleased to hear from you.
Did someone mention Spring Cleaning?
Did you know, or were you aware that we have an upstairs store room? We will shortly be preparing to once again clear and clean this area. If you have added any item to the room and want it kept, please add a note to that effect or it might be disposed of.
Early Planning and Preparation
We will soon be holding a meeting about fund raising, in particular discussing the Summer Fair. The meeting (date of which will be confirmed shortly) will be an ‘open’ meeting, so please, in the mean time, put your thinking caps on and hopefully come along and share plenty of ideas.
Please remember to keep saving postage stamps so we can support ‘Kidney Care’ Start number 1,154 now1,329
