GRAPEVINE – 31st March to 14th April 2019.

Church Family News

Please remember in your prayers:- Anyone you may know who at the present time is not too well. We think of all members of our church family who are maybe struggling with health, and we think of those who are due to undergo hospital tests operations, treatments for various conditions or waiting for results etc and trust all will go well for them.

We also remember all Church family and friends who can no longer share in fellowship with us because of being housebound or who are now in the loving care of Care Homes in the area, and feel sure that knowing they are in our thoughts and prayers is a comfort to them.

On Saturday 30th, we welcomed into the Church Family, by Holy Baptism, Amelia Tekell, daughter of Jayne and Richard. A warm Greens Lane welcome was extended to family, Godparents and all friends who attended to share and celebrate Amelia’s very special day, and we wished her God’s Blessings for a long, healthy and happy life.

Happy Birthday, Congratulations and Best Wishes to all who have Birthdays and/or Anniversaries over the next two weeks.

Church Stewards

This is the time of year when we begin to think about our Stewardship team, which presently numbers four:- Christine Smart, Ron Hill, Graham Stoves and Caroline Noble. In May, one of these Stewards will be stepping down, having served for more than the required term and it is hoped that a replacement, or even ‘replacements’, can be found. It would be very difficult to operate with a Stewardship of only three. If anyone feels called to Stewardship, please speak to one of the present Stewards to learn more of the duties. Please do not put forward the name of another church member, unless discussing this with them first. Our Minister and the Stewards ask for your prayerful consideration of this matter.

Lent Study Group

A course of Lent Studies began at on Tuesday 12th March and has continued on a weekly basis on Tuesday evenings and will do so until 9th April. Those attending have looked at the final chapters of John’s Gospel, together with discussion on some challenging issues raised by ‘All We Can’. This will be an informal study group, lasting no more than 90 minutes and open to anyone to attend – there is still time to share in one or two meetings.

Annual Church Meeting

The above meeting (to which everyone is invited) is scheduled for Monday 30thApril, and Sarah Jennings our Meeting Secretary requests that anyone who it due to submit a report prior to the meeting, does so by Sunday 14th April so that all reports may be prepared ready for circulation etc. Sarah requests that they can be either e-mailed to her or left in the ‘J’ pigeon hole for her. If you wish you can hand them to Sarah before the 14th. Also if anyone has A.O.B for discussion at the meeting, please inform Sarah as early as possible also.

As usual the evening will commence with a fish and chip tea (for those who wish to partake), and we would request that you add your name and your requirements to the sheet that can be found in the vestibule.

Traidcraft

Thank you to everybody who supported the Traidcraft stall during Fairtrade Fortnight, a total of £134 was raised. In addition to stall sales, £42 was sent to Traidcraft Exchange from the sale of pancakes at the Coffee Morning on Shrove Tuesday.

South East Africa Cyclone Appeal

For the next two Sundays, a collection plate will be at the back of Church for anyone who wishes to donate to the ‘All We Can’ Appeal for victims of the recent cyclone which has caused such devastation. There has already been £100 donated within our Church, and we hope that this will increase before the plate is removed in April.

Easter Offering Envelopes

As in other years, Easter Offering envelopes will be distributed and available to everyone on Palm Sunday. All monies raised from the envelopes throughout the Circuit, will be handed in at the Circuit Service which will be held at Greens Lane on Sunday 5th May. The cheques will then be banked and the total forwarded to World Missions for continuing the work of many missionaries who carry out God’s work around the world.

Pastoral Secretary

Christine Cockerill who is presently our Pastoral Roll Secretary, wishes to take a short break from the role and wonders if there is anyone within the Church Family who would be willing to take it on. Being able to use a computer is necessary as all names on our Pastoral Register must be kept up to date etc. If you are interested in what the role entails, please have a word with Christine – she will be very pleased to hear from you.

Did someone mention Spring Cleaning?

Did you know, or were you aware that we have an upstairs store room? We will shortly be preparing to once again clear and clean this area. If you have added any item to the room and want it kept, please add a note to that effect or it might be disposed of.
