GRAPEVINE – 4th August – 8th September 2019.

As this edition covers a number of weeks,

Church Family News

Please remember in your prayers:- all members of our church family who are maybe struggling with health problems, and we think of those who are due to undergo hospital tests, operations, treatments etc for various conditions or perhaps waiting for results and trust all will go well for them. A number of our church family friends have been ‘flawed’ by heavy chesty coughs and head colds, thankfully, all are now well on the way to recovery.

We also remember all Church family and friends who can no longer share in fellowship with us because of being housebound or who are now in the loving care of Care Homes in the area, and feel sure that knowing they are in our thoughts and prayers is a comfort to them.

Saturday, 3rd August, we welcomed the Kendall and Salisbury-Jones families, together with many friends as they came along to support and share in the wedding service of the happy couple – Elizabeth and Dan. The weather was perfect, the Groom only a little nervous, the Bride was radiant, and with everyone looking on, the couple were extremely pleased to be pronounced Mr & Mrs Dan Salisbury Jones by Rev. Peter Catford. Elizabeth attended Sunday School at Greens Lane and is the granddaughter of the late Kathleen and Alan Kendall (both stalwart church members and Alan, one of our church organists for many years) and they were both, no doubt, looking down as Elizabeth & Dan took their wedding vows.

On behalf of the Church Family at Greens Lane we take this opportunity to offer

Congratulations, Love and Best Wishes to the new “Mr & Mrs” May God Bless you both always XX

Rev. Moira Peters led our evening worship on Sunday 14th July her last planned preaching appointment at Greens Lane before she “sits down” from full-time Ministry. We could not let the opportunity pass, without letting her know how much the Greens Lane Church Family have appreciated her during her time in this Circuit and how we have always looked forward to her services and wonderful sermons, illustrated with her very dry and apt anecdotes and humour. We presented her with a pretty houseplant, a rather large box of special chocolates, (for which we understand she has a weakness) and a card to wish her every blessing in the new phase of her life, from the church family at Greens Lane. Rev. Moira has telephoned to thank us very much for this gift and the kind thoughts. Also added that she has always felt very welcome, and “at home”, at Greens Lane. We are sorry to lose her but she knows that she will always be greeted with open arms at our church.

On Saturday, 17th August, we will welcome into the Church Family, by Holy Baptism, Sophie Mae Tate, daughter of Beth and Christopher and we extend to all the family, God parents and friends who will share in Sophie’s special day and the Baptismal celebration, a very warm welcome. We wish you God’s Blessings Sophie, for a long, healthy and happy life. XX

Happy Birthday, Congratulations and Best Wishes to all who have Birthdays and/or Anniversaries over the next few weeks. In this coming week John Ewart will celebrate a landmark birthday and we wish him a Happy Birthday and enjoyable time with his family. Via Grapevine, (and because we know she reads every edition), we send Happy Birthday Greetings to Gwyneth Nellist as she celebrates her 93rd birthday on 7th August. Love and Blessings Gwyneth from all friends at Greens Lane, we hope you enjoy your day. XX

You will note from the ‘Dates for Your Diary’ above, that the four coffee mornings in August have now been arranged. Please come along and support if at all possible and mention to friends that these are happening in August and maybe bring them along too. Members from Ladies Circle are hoping to top up the annual project money which this year is for the HALO Project currently being run in Middlesbrough and Stockton for women caught up in arranged marriages and also those who have undergone Female Genital Mutilation, and need long term support after being caught up in such damaging circumstances. Any donations for a raffle/tombola will be gratefully received, by Judy Morrison and Margaret Walton.

Following the success of our recent event, a further ‘Boot Sale’ is planned for Saturday 21st September. Bacon butties will once again be available – served between 9.00 am and 1.00pm and if anybody wishes to book a car space, please get in touch with Andrew Stoves. Any contributions for a cake stall with be gratefully received. NEXT YEAR we intend to hold three further ‘Boot Events’ in April, July and September

Holidays at Home – Across the Circuit in August.

Please note that the Holidays at Home across the Circuit are, apart from the one scheduled for North Billingham on 27th August, not going ahead. Apologies with regard to the one discussed for 22nd August at Greens Lane. However, if anyone is interested in attending the event scheduled at North Billingham, please have a word with either, Judy, Margaret Walton, or Cynthia.

Summer Holidays

Our youngsters have now all broken up for the school holidays – with a number of the older ones having to wait patiently for examination results, due out at the end of August. However if you are heading off on holiday over the forthcoming ‘summer’ weeks, we wish everyone a safe journey to wherever you may be travelling, and we hope the sun will continue to shine for you. Please take our good wishes to any Churches you may visit during this time and on your return we look forward to seeing you ‘healthy and refreshed’ even if it is only due to the change of scenery and time to chill out and relax. E N J O Y.
