GRAPEVINE – 1st to 15th December 2019.

Church Family News

Please remember in your prayers:- Pleased to report that Tom Millions is back home from his time in hospital and at Rosedale. We think of all members of our church family who are maybe struggling with health problems, and we think of those who are due to undergo hospital tests, operations, treatments etc for various conditions or perhaps waiting for results and trust all will go well for them. We also remember all Church family and friends who can no longer share in fellowship with us because of being housebound or who are now in the loving care of Care Homes in the area, and feel sure that knowing they are in our thoughts and prayers is a comfort to them.

Happy Birthday, Congratulations and Best Wishes to all who have Birthdays and/or Anniversaries over the next couple of weeks. We give a special mention this week for Dorothy and Brian White who will celebrate their Silver Wedding on Tuesday 3rd December. The Church Family wish you both, heartiest congratulations, love and best wishes as you celebrate 25 years as “Mr & Mrs” !!! May God’s Blessings be with you both always XX

If you purchase cards from those already available, please pop money in an envelope which can be found on the table and pass to Sandra. We thank Sandra for stepping up into this role and looking after things on behalf of the Smarts.

Methodist Women in Britain – Advent Service – Monday 2nd December

This year the District Service will be held at Green’s Lane (tomorrow) and we extend a warm invitation to any ladies who would like to pop along and share in this service. Coffee will be served from 10.30am with the service commencing at 11.00. Debs Coggrave, who is the new District President for Darlington District MWiB will lead worship, supported by a number of ladies from Stockton Circuit. Our service will be followed by a soup and bread lunch. The offering, which will be taken during the service, will be shared between MWiB and COCO (Comrades Of Children Overseas) which is the project we are raising funds for until July next year.

Seafarers and Food Bank Appeals

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far to these appeals, the boxes for which, are put in the vestry for security, during week and will be out in the vestibule on Sundays. There has been a huge response to the appeal for gifts for seafarers who are in port during Christmas, many of whom will have been at sea for several months. The Mission volunteers are going to make up parcels from all the donated items on Monday 2 December, so today, (1st) is the last opportunity for this box, as all items will be taken to them in time for wrapping.

However, the Food Bank box will remain till nearer Christmas, so please continue with your generosity by adding to the items in this box

Bible Readers for Sunday Services

Thank you to everyone who is and has been on our Sunday services reading list and also to those ‘new’ readers who have kindly offered to join the team. Everyone’s efforts are greatly appreciated as our readers and readings are a very important part of our Sunday worship.,

Carols at the Shops’

We have once again been asked to advertise what has become an annual event of ‘Carols at the Shops’ in Hartburn Parade. This year it is set for 7.00 pm on Tuesday 10th December and a warm invitation is extended to all to go along and share in the singing of Carols. This is a wonderful way for the churches in the area to come together, and then to be able to chat over light refreshments (Tea, mince pies, and roasted chestnuts) at the Village church hall (All Saints).

Church Christmas Card

This will be available in the vestibule in the near future and as last year it will be a design by a Junior Church member. As always, members are invited to enter a message for everyone, thus making a saving in individual cards. As our Lord came into our world without a “home”, we are aware particularly at this time of year, of those who are homeless and as you sign the card, if possible, please make a donation to “Shelter” to support their work for those less fortunate, and remember them in your prayers. Thank you

Tuesday Coffee

Tuesday Coffee morning could still benefit from more helpers to share serving coffee on a rota basis, and if anyone thinks that they could help in this way, perhaps only once a month, then please have a word with Margaret Schofield – watch her smile when YOU offer.

Sunday Morning Refreshments

If there is anyone who feels they could take on the role to make, serve and wash up after refreshments on a Sunday can you please have a word with Judy Morrison. The Rota (for the whole of the year) is typed up in December and any additional offers of help (to work in pairs), would be greatly appreciated. Your ‘turn’ would come round approximately every six weeks. Thank You

Stockton West Rotary Club Christmas Concert

The Rotary Club of Stockton West have booked our Church for their annual Christmas Concert this year on Saturday 14 December featuring the excellent Northern Voices Choir (who sang for our Church Anniversary Social a couple of years ago). All are welcome and if you would like to come along and enjoy an evening of Christmas singing in our Church, with light refreshments afterwards, please see the poster on the board. Tickets priced at £5.00 are available from Caroline.

Christmas Quiz

Have YOU picked up a copy of the new Quiz yet? We think this will help to keep everyone alert as we approach Christmas – every answer has a Christmas connection!! The Editor thinks it is hard, but excellent value at still just £1 a copy. There is plenty of time to complete it over the coming weeks as entries are to be in by 29th December and the winner will be announced at our Faith Tea on Sunday 5th January 2020

Forthcoming ‘Glut’ (hopefully) of Postage Stamps

The Editor received her first Christmas card this week, so no doubt other folks at Greens Lane will start to receive ‘stamped’ envelopes from friends and relatives. Sandra Wilkinson has done a stalwart job of collecting all our used stamps since the sad passing of June Pelton who had done it on our behalf for a number of years, and we thank Sandra for continuing to do this. Please spread the word around family and friends to save as many used stamps (off Christmas or any correspondence) as they can, which in turn will contribute to helping the ‘Kidney Care’ Charity, which supports patients with varying kidney problems.

The Traidcraft Shop

The Traidcraft Shop can be found in Dundas Arcade in Middlesbrough. The store is open Monday to Saturday 10.00 am – 5.00pm. They have a wide selection of Fair Trade Christmas gifts, cards and foods from all around the world. Why not pop in if you are in Middlesbrough town centre, you may just find exactly what you are looking for, especially, that ‘special gift’.

Please Can You Help

Please remember that Millie Bruce will be very grateful to receive ‘pretty card fronts’ that can be re-cycled by the patients attending the craft class at the Butterwick Hospice

A request from Judy Morrison

Is there anyone in the church family who has the equipment to change a short (20 mins) VHS film onto a DVD disc? If you are able to help/advise please have a word with Judy.

Please remember to keep saving postage stamps so we can support ‘Kidney Care’ 3,550 now 3,594 (going up!)

Please remember to pop into the large green bin anything that can be passed on to local asylum seekers

Please remember that we, as a Church, are supporters of Fairtrade products
